Do We Become What We Think About

I know that we have all heard the term you are what you eat. But is this true when it comes to our thoughts. Do we become what we think about? To sum it up I think that we become and are what we think about. I spend allot time in the personal development and self-help section of the book store and have read many explanations on how your thoughts influence your life and how you can get hold of the thoughts you think and send your life in a different direction just by controlling what you think about.

I know that some of you maybe thinking that I’m talking about some hocus pocus stuff and that what we think about can’t really control what happens in our lives or change it for that matter. I’m here to tell you that it can. If you control what you think about most of the time it will change your life.

What I believe is that to understand how your thoughts control your life you have to first look at your life and try to match up the things that are true or happening in your life, to the thoughts that you have. Let’s take for example if you think you can never lose weight and you know that you are a bit over weight at the moment you are bringing that into your life with your thoughts. I know you maybe saying that is impossible because you want to lose weight but you just can’t.

Let me explain how your thoughts come into play here. If you think you can’t loose the weight that you want you have already cut off any possibility of if happening for you just by having that thought. The reason is you are not letting your mind search for solution’s to your problem because it already knows that you said it can’t be done. So you cut off any possibility of it happening whether you want to lose weight or not you mind knows it can’t by what you are already telling it so it doesn’t even try.

On the other hand if you are telling your self that you are going to lose the weight and you have a picture in your mind of what you will look like when the weight is gone. You are giving you mind permission to start to look for solutions to the problem of being over weight their fore you will start to see solution’s all around you to help you with your goal. It could come in the form of finding a new book on nutrition or discovering a form of exercise that your love and doesn’t feel like exercise and will help you with your goals.

The thing is if you don’t give yourself a chance to look for solution’s to your problems you will always have those problems and this all stems from what you are thinking about.

How To Change Your Thoughts

  • So how do you change the your thoughts? First I would think about only the things that I do want in my life and forget about what I don’t. Focus on the things you want will set your mind in that direction and don’t second guess yourself. Don’t just say you want it but really deep down in side don’t think it is possible or reasonable for you. If you want it state it as so and see yourself getting it.
  • Keep the negative thoughts out of you head. Hard to do I know because I think that we are just built that way to see what could go wrong instead of what could go right.
  • Stay away from negative people even if they are related to you. I know its hard but it is something that must be done. Negative people can deflate your ambition and goals just with their presents.
  • Start to read inspiring stories about people who have done what you would like to do in your life. If someone else has done it you can do it to. You are capable and as special as the next person so don’t let it hold you back.
  • Set goals for what you want. Picture it in your mind and actually see yourself reaching your goals.

So if you find that things just aren’t going right for you in your life maybe it is because of the thoughts that you are thinking which are bringing those things into your life. So I would say that we are what we think and thoughts are things so make sure that you are thinking the right things.
